The expedition with Stanhope St. Secondary School in 2004 started early on a Saturday morning and involved 20 participants. It begun with the issue of kit and equipment, a refresher navigation lesson, description of the route they would be taking and a safety brief. The group was broken into teams and they navigated independently. During the day there were a number of breaks where we had prepared challenges and team building exercises for them to complete before continuing. On reaching the campsite, we conducted lessons in preparing food and erecting shelters. The night was spent in bivi’s and the next morning the teams navigated their way to a pickup point, where transport was waiting to take them back to their school.
