When a group decides to participate in a venture, our trained leaders will visit to assist participants with the planning and organisation process. On the first visit, participants will be given information packs containing possible routes, equipment, fitness plans etc., which will encourage them to take responsibility for their own venture. A second preparatory visit will take place closer to the venture date to finalise arrangements and participants will be asked to return consent forms and sign a contract agreeing to abide by the Youth Venture Project's rules/policies.

  1. On the day of the venture, participants will meet at a pre-assigned area. The Youth Venture Project will supply the following equipment for the duration of the venture: rain gear; outdoor sleeping system; cooking equipment; A main meal.
  2. Briefs on navigation, routes, emergency procedures, behaviour and weather updates will then be given before the group break into their teams and begin the expedition.
  3. During the expedition, teams will need to put their newly learned navigational skills into practise as they race to different checkpoints and complete team-building exercises along the way. Participants will have to work as a team, making decisions and showing initiative.
  4. Upon reaching the camp site, teams will receive instruction on how to set up their shelters, cook the main meal and stay warm.
  5. On the following day, withdrawal from camp site, more walking, team-building exercises and transport back to meeting point. Participants are asked to complete an evaluation form following the venture and write a short report to be posted on our website.
