Without the generosity of volunteers we would not be able to reach the young people who need our support. Volunteers are involved right across Youth Venture Project. If you would like to get involved and think you have qualifications, skills or experience that may be of benefit to us please get in contact. We do not advertise specific volunteer positions but are constantly looking for people to help out. Be sure to include in your email: your address, occupation, skills and qualifications.
Working with young people
Please note that as a volunteer with Youth Venture Project you will be working with young people. As such, we require at least two character references and you will be required to allow us to check that you do not have any criminal convictions which would stop you being allowed to do this type of volunteering right away. Please don’t be discouraged if it takes us a long time to get in touch with you again as Garda clearance can take up to 8 weeks.
How much time would I have to give?
Youth Venture Project conducts weekend long expeditions with groups of young people from areas of Dublin. Currently these expeditions are scheduled so that we have one a month but with the aid of more volunteers this may be increased. We would require volunteers to make themselves available for at least two of these expeditions a year. If weekend work does not suit you there is a lot of administration, organisation and fundraising that needs to happen behind the scenes.
Training / Support & Supervision
Each volunteer will receive initial orientation training and outline from one of the members of Youth Venture Project. This training will happen on a weekend during the course of an expedition. There is also the potential to get involved in training. Specifically we are looking for people who would be willing to do the Presidents Award Leader course and / or volunteer management courses.
Will I be paid?
Volunteers are not paid for the hours they give to Youth Venture Project; volunteering is something you do for free. However you should equally not find yourself out-of-pocket for the volunteering you do. You can reasonably expect to be repaid for the cost of travelling from your home to the location of any activities. We will also cover any expenses related to meals and any special equipment or clothing that you are required to buy.
Im not an outdoor person. Is there anyway i can help?
Yes. Youth Venture Project has an ongoing need for volunteers that would be willing to take on fundraising or office work. Examples of such work may include:
- organising or taking part in sponsored events, collections, fun runs, etc.;
- assisting in completing grant applications;
- updating our website;
- financial management; and
- various 'one off' pieces of work such as producing publicity material.
